Apparently Hamachi cannot traverse a firewall when installed on most linux OS's...
It simply doesn't work, though www.logmein.com 's website likes to claim that it does.
I have yet to find anyone who has made it work behind a firewall, without forwarding a bunch of ports....(pointless...)
Why this is the case i'm not sure...maybe the people at "logmein.com", are too lazy or don't care to make it work on linux...or maybe Centos and Ubuntu distro's are lacking in some basic cryptography and/or tcp routing functionality (most likely the case). Hell, it took me days to find a decent install guide for it.
So the upside is that it works INSIDE your network...but that pretty much defeats the purpose of a vpn software.. eh?...
Hamachi does work... And
Hamachi does work... And there are countless solutions for VPN. OpenVPN!!!
well, when you run stuff
well, when you run stuff behind a firewall, and your firewall blocks ports, you need to open the ports to get a given application to get access through the firewall, that's just the way stuff works...
oh really ?.... Kinda sounds
oh really ?....
Kinda sounds like you're being a smart ***, and you don't know what you are talking about...
THAT is the point of HAMACHI...!!!! DUH !!!!
It runs THROUGH your firewall.... at least on WINDOWS it does.
...but thanks for the input anyway....
not.
Unfortunately it appears as
Unfortunately it appears as though you have brought the windows ideals into the Linux world.
Why use Hamachi 'VPN' (I use the term lightly) when Linux has the much superior SSH system?
Either way, it works fine on my Debian 4.0 work machine to the outside world even through the council's draconian filtering! (Havn't had time to set up reverse SSH yet)
Linux OS's? Linux
Linux OS's? Linux distros.
Why is port forwarding pointless?
"or maybe Centos and Ubuntu distro's are lacking in some basic cryptography and/or tcp routing functionality (most likely the case)" No. They are not. Does cryptography have anything to do with firewall traversal?
The install guide comes with the tarball last time I checked. And yes, it worked with my firewall without any need for port forwarding.
Thanks for your input. Go use Windows.
