Too complicated !

I've been trying Ubuntu for a few weeks now and I have to admit that I had some very hard times. I thought at first that Linux was simple and easy to use but it's far from being the truth. It first began when I wanted to burn a Xbox 360 DVD, then when I wanted to share my files with my Xbox and it was even worse. I even had problems trying to install my external harddrive.... And today I wanted to connect my TV with my computer to have a second screen I didn't made it through (Ok, it works but I can't see a damn thing cauz the resolution sux). Plus I'm missing Office 2007... So I think tomorrow I'll be installing Windows again !

Does anyone of you thinks that someday Linux could be as simple as Windows for all those things ?

It's hard to say. A lot of

It's hard to say. A lot of these problems have to do with non-open formats. I think you'd have the same problems communicating with your XBOX360 if you were using a Mac. It's a Microsoft device, full of Microsoft protection.

As for Office 2007, what exactly do you miss about it? I find Office 2000/2003 far easier to use (I've never been a fan of the ribbon system), and OpenOffice.org's layout is almost identical to those. But if you really must have it, you must. MS may one day make a Linux version of Office, if Linux gets a foothold in the market and MS fears it will be there to stay. There are IE and Office for Mac OS X, so I'd say MS's philosophy is to sell whatever the hell it can, however and to whomever it can. But who knows.

In the meantime, OpenOffice.org 3.0 does a stellar job of reading and editing Office 07 files (though it can't save to the 07 formats). But if it's the interface you really like, I understand your qualms.

Not that this will make you

Not that this will make you feel better, but according to WineHQ, Office 2007 actually installs and runs with Wine in openSUSE 11.1 (64-bit distro). Maybe Wine will help to bring it to other distros soon?
